September 20 Build
Major optimization!
One of the biggest problems with framerate had to do with the way the characters' behavior. Many components and scripts were still active regardless of whether the player was interacting with them or not. Until now, I had a system in place which deactivated the animator component and the mesh renderer component when the player was far enough, or not looking directly. I thought it was good enough, but by reworking the system to deactivate most of the unnecessary components, I manage to get improvements in framerate. So it should be smoother now.
I was very happy with the results since (at least on my pc), I got up to 10 frames per second more compared to the previous build :D
I had a messy setup of 2 post processing layers, one of which controlled the DOF effect for the pause screen (background gets blurry when paused), which overrode layer 1's DOF which which was only active inside a now absent post processing volume. I now have 1 layer with a dynamic DOF, which adjusts to the object the player is looking at, giving this cool cinematic effect.
This setup is cleaner, more efficient, and looks cooler :v
Dynamic focus:
Note: It's only active on 1rst person, and can be deactivated on the settings screen.
While adjusting the DOF behavior, I also made changes to the rest of the effects I had in place.
You can find toggles for all of these effects, so you can remove whichever you don't want.
Besides Ambient occlusion, you can find toggles for: Chromatic aberration, Bloom, Depth of field, and Motion blur.
As always, thank you for your support and patience. This time I took long updating you because I have been figuring out personal stuff, and I have been playing around with different ideas on how to continue this project timely and efficiently.
Everything will continue as per usual, but I'll let you know whatever I decide at the end.
Again, thank you.
